I acquired Casa Caribe in 1999 when there were very few Americans
in La Gloria. I had visited Isla Mujeres in 1998 to swim with the
dolphins and saw some very small block houses for sale right there
on the Caribbean. After looking into the island a bit more,
I knew I wanted to spend as many days on island as possible for
the rest of my life.
I first had some Mayan workers from the Yucatan bring over enough
wood for the deck, stairs and railings. I have always intended to
keep Casa Caribe in the style of the Mayan and also open to the
Caribbean views and breezes. To feel the sea yet in a Mayan type
environment, but still with all the modern conveniences - a sort of
living outside on the sea. On the Caribbean side of the island there
is nearly always a cool breeze as the rest of the island swelters in
heat of the Yucatan Peninsula.
For those of you who love nature, please be our guest on the deck and feel the
sea all the while enjoying the Mexican/Mayan flavor of Casa Caribe.
I was born in Colorado and always had empathy and a
desire to learn of other cultures. Maybe because my my Dad and Mom
drove me from Denver to Acapulco and back in 1960 at age 12. I
was smitten then by the Mexican culture and view of the sea, and by
the spiritual calming of living on the sea.
I graduated from Littleton High School, Littleton, Colorado in 1966 then University of
Denver in 1970 with a Business degree. In 1974, I earned a
Masters Degree in International Management at Thunderbird School
of Global Management
specializing in
Inter-American relations and commerce. There I learned Spanish and fell in love with
Latin America.
I went to Chile with US Peace Corps in 1975, studied export
marketing in Colombia 1976.
Then I taught Export Marketing for the Mexican government in 1977 and published "Made in Mexico" Magazine until 1984.
After the Mexican financial crisis of 1984, I returned to Colorado
to work for Aggregate Industries, managing several departments until
my retirement in 2008.
October
2010, I married May from Philippines. She loves helping me
maintain Casa Caribe for the comfort of our guests.
Twelve years after acquiring my home on Isla Mujeres, I still
want to spend as much time here as possible working and improving
Casa Caribe because it truly is paradise.
Please feel welcome to click on the "Make Reservation" link
above and come to Isla Mujeres to enjoy the Mayan flavor of the
Caribbean at Casa Caribe. Full services available.
Welcome to your paradise...
